Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You include figures from both charts, such as 600 under-11 ballet students, around 520 older students in modern dance, and the 48% share for private studios. However, the response only partially summarises the main features: it does not clearly identify the largest and smallest location categories or give a clear overview of how dance preferences differ by age. The statement that under-11 children “had lowered in proportion” is not supported by the charts, which show numbers rather than a change over time, and the comparison with private studios is confused. The final sentence repeats location percentages rather than drawing out a key pattern. Select the most notable contrasts and describe them accurately in a concise overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, comments on the charts, and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Under age of 11” and “Under 11 to 16” signal which age group is being discussed. However, the progression is not consistently clear because the location data and dance-type data are mixed together, and the conclusion largely repeats figures already mentioned. Linking words such as “Although” and “However” do not always express a clear relationship between the ideas that follow them. Group the location percentages in one section and compare the age groups’ dance choices in another, using transitions that make the comparisons explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “Ballet,” “Tap,” “Modern,” “private studios,” and “community hall,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward, for example “different positions,” “lowered in proportion,” “were performed dance,” and “passionate about Tap.” Spelling errors such as “aproximately” and “intrested” also reduce accuracy. Prefer neutral, precise language for describing chart data rather than describing students’ feelings or actions. For example, say that students “attended” a class or that a category “accounted for” a percentage. Check spelling and use the chart’s labels consistently, including “college-based studios” and “school halls.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to use more than simple sentences, as in “Although, those children under 11 to 16 had high in proportion among students,” but complex structures are often faulty and the range remains limited. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “A glance at charts reveal” and “600 student were performed,” while articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “Under age of 11” and “less than 500 were showed Tap dance.” The opening sentence is difficult to interpret because its grammatical structure does not clearly connect the charts with what they show. Use straightforward, accurate patterns such as “The charts show…” and “Among children under 11, ballet was the most popular class.” Then add comparisons with carefully formed clauses.
