Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The given pie chart delineates the location fo the dance classes attended by youth in an Australian town and the horizontal bar graph demonstrates the type of dance classes attended by various age groups.
A glance at the charts indicates that the dance classes are most frequently held in private studios and less likely to occur in college based studios. It further points at the popularity of ballet classes among under 11 age group along with the popularity of modern dances among 11 to teenager age groups.
To commence with, the location of dance classes is mostly private studios making up 48% of the whole while the school halls contribute to 24% of it. This is followed by the less preferred choices which are community halls and other with percentage 18 and finally the least prefered location college based studios with a rough contribution of 10%.
A hollistic view of the horizontal bar graph reveals that ballet is the most popular class among under 11 age groups comprising of upto 600 students and only half of it as the 11-16 aged students. The tap classes have been crowded by both age groups but more of it consists under 11 students. On the other hand, the modern classes consist of slightly more than 500 students of the 11 and teenage group with under 11 group contributing almost 300 students.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: private studios are the leading venue, college-based studios the least common, ballet is strongest among under-11s, and modern is strongest among 11–16-year-olds. Most figures are accurately reported, including the location shares and the approximate ballet and modern totals. The main factual weakness is the tap comparison: the chart shows about 450 under-11 students and 420 aged 11–16, so the younger group leads only slightly; “crowded by both age groups” is vague and does not make that comparison clear. Your overview also says modern is popular among teenagers, but could state more precisely that it is the leading style for the older group. More exact comparisons would strengthen an otherwise well-focused summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised in a clear sequence: an introduction identifies the visuals, an overview highlights the main patterns, and the following paragraphs report venue and class details. Linking expressions such as “To commence with” and “On the other hand” help guide the reader, and the information generally progresses logically. Some transitions are less natural or precise, however: “A glance at the charts indicates” and “A hollistic view” are formulaic, while “This is followed by the less preferred choices” does not clearly distinguish the two remaining venue categories. The tap sentence also groups the age groups together without clearly stating the small difference. Use simpler transitions and make each comparison explicit to improve the flow further.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You show a sufficient range of vocabulary and some flexibility, using terms such as “delineates,” “contribute,” “comprising,” and “least preferred” to describe the data. The language is generally clear, and you use relevant chart vocabulary, including “pie chart,” “horizontal bar graph,” and “age groups.” Some choices are imprecise or awkward for this task: “crowded by both age groups” does not naturally describe enrolment, and “modern dances” is less accurate than the chart’s category, “modern classes.” There are also spelling errors in “fo,” “prefered,” and “hollistic.” Aim for precise, neutral reporting language and check spelling; this would make your vocabulary more consistently controlled and appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of sentence forms, including complex constructions such as “A glance at the charts indicates that…” and “while the school halls contribute to 24% of it.” Meaning remains clear throughout, and several sentences are well controlled. However, some grammatical inaccuracies persist: “among under 11 age group” needs an article or plural form, “making up 48% of the whole” has an unclear reference, and “more of it consists under 11 students” has an incorrect construction. The phrase “with under 11 group contributing” also needs an article. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit the consistency of your control. Review articles, plural forms, and sentence patterns after “consist” and “comprise” to improve accuracy.
