Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and identify the main contrasts: private studios are the most common location, while college-based studios are the least common; ballet leads among under-11s, whereas modern dance leads among 11–16-year-olds. Most figures are reported accurately, including 48%, 10%, and the approximate student totals. The overview at the end reinforces the key age-group contrast. Some details are less fully or precisely presented: the school-hall share is 24%, not “just a bit low than quarter (25%),” and the comparison of the older group’s ballet and tap figures would be clearer with their approximate values (300 and 420). The response addresses the task well overall, but more precise reporting and a concise overview would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable progression: it introduces the charts, discusses locations, then compares dance styles by age, and ends with an overview. Linking expressions such as “while,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other hand” help signal comparisons, and the reader can follow the main points. However, the overview is placed at the end and largely repeats earlier information, while the second paragraph contains several comparisons in a long sequence. Some links are not fully logical—for example, “Furthermore” introduces another set of figures without a clear relationship to the preceding point. Use a separate, concise overview after the introduction, then organise the details into clear groups, such as locations and age-group comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “participate,” “percentage,” “age group,” and “attend classes,” so the main information is generally understandable. There is also some attempt to vary phrasing, such as “least interested” and “more interested.” However, several spelling errors and awkward or repetitive expressions limit precision: “intrested,” “modren,” “learninng,” and “apear” recur, while “take classes” and “dance classes” are repeated frequently. Some collocations are unnatural, including “the maximum number … take classes” and “half of it … attend classes.” Choose standard chart language and check spelling carefully; for example, use “the largest proportion” for percentages and “the number of students” for counts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “while,” “which,” and “who” to compare the groups. These structures help convey relationships between the charts, and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “Second chart illustrate” needs an article and a plural verb (“The second chart illustrates”), while “the age group under 11 seems much interested” does not form a natural grammatical pattern. In “less than 500 people … are interested in learning,” the construction is also awkward. Punctuation is inconsistent, including missing spaces after commas and a comma before “people” in the final overview. Aim for shorter, controlled comparisons and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
