Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and give a relevant overview by identifying private studios as the leading location and naming the three dance styles. The location figures are mostly reported accurately, including 48% and 24%; grouping the remaining locations as 28% is also correct. You also compare the age groups, correctly noting the younger students’ preference for ballet and the older group’s higher participation in modern dance. However, the overview could identify the main contrast across all three styles more clearly, and the older group’s ballet and tap figures are omitted. The statement that most classes are “owned by private organisations” is not shown by the chart, which reports where classes are held. More precise coverage of the age-group data would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by separate paragraphs on locations and dance types. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Secondly” help readers follow this structure, and the comparisons within the age-group paragraph are generally easy to understand. This meets the expectation of coherent organisation, with some progression across the response. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, and the overview does not connect the two charts or summarise their most important contrasts. The sentence beginning “At the same time” also groups two locations without explaining their relative shares. To strengthen progression, use more precise links between comparisons and ensure each paragraph develops one clear main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “enrolled,” and “age group,” so the reader can understand the main information. There are also attempts to vary wording, such as “pupils” and “young persons.” However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “dance institutes” does not describe the chart’s classes, “owned by private organisations” changes the meaning of the location data, and “gain their skills in modern dance than other two” is awkward. Repetition of “dance classes” and “students” also limits flexibility. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, for example, “classes are held in” and “participate in modern dance.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons between age groups, and the main message is usually understandable. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation reduce accuracy. For example, “which are currently attending” has an incorrect structure, while “the most of dance classes are take place” combines an incorrect article pattern with an incorrect verb form. In “which is accounted for almost half,” the clause does not agree naturally with its subject, and “while” and “because” are incorrectly separated from the preceding sentence. Work on reliable patterns such as “classes are held,” “which accounts for,” and “students aged 11–16,” and check sentence boundaries and capitalisation.
