Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You cover both charts and provide a clear overview of the main contrasts: private studios are the most common venue, while college-based studios are the least common, and preferences differ by age group. The figures are generally accurate, including the location percentages and the approximate student totals. Your comparisons of ballet and modern dance are particularly relevant, and you also note that tap attracts similar numbers in both groups. This gives the report a well-supported account of the key features. To make the overview more precise, avoid saying ballet “had popular” and clarify that it was the most popular style among under-11s, while modern led among 11–16-year-olds. Also, “school halls … were the majority place” overstates their share: 24% makes them the second most common location, not a majority.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a sensible overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for location and dance types. This makes the two sets of information easy to identify, and comparisons such as “In contrast” help connect the age-group figures. The overview also gives the reader a useful guide to the main patterns. However, cohesion is sometimes weakened by mechanical or misplaced linking words. For example, “whereas” is used after a full stop in the overview, and “While” and “whereas” repeatedly interrupt the location paragraph. Some sentences run together without a space after the full stop. Use fewer, more purposeful transitions and ensure each paragraph develops its point in a smooth sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “accounting for,” “popular,” “attracted similar numbers,” and “compared with.” These choices help communicate the main comparisons. However, the range and control are limited by repeated wording and several inaccurate or misspelled expressions, such as “dominant venue,” “minority choice,” “interasted,” and “considerebly.” Some collocations are also unnatural: “majority place” does not accurately describe a 24% share, and “ballet had popular” is not an appropriate phrase. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully, as these errors are noticeable and occasionally make the intended meaning less immediate. More varied terms for proportions and participation would improve flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “while,” “whereas,” and “compared with.” However, errors occur frequently, and some sentence structures are faulty. The opening says “The two charts provides” and “the bar charts compares,” where the subjects and verbs do not agree. Other examples include “ballet had popular” and “it least popular,” which have incomplete or incorrect verb structures. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “in age group under 11” and the run-together “classes.While.” These problems sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the sentence. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, complete verb phrases, and punctuation before adding more complex structures.
