Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the largest location share correctly: private studios account for 48%, while college-based studios are lowest at 10%. You also mention the three dance styles and two age groups, so the response is relevant to both charts. However, the overview of the class types is inaccurate: ballet is not highest overall, and tap is not lowest; the leading figures are under-11 ballet (about 600) and 11–16 modern (about 520), while the smallest is under-11 modern (about 300). The claim that under-11 students are highest and 11–16 students lowest across both charts is unsupported. Report the main age-group contrasts and avoid conclusions that the charts do not show. (Eight words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an opening overview and a later paragraph about the location chart, and phrases such as “in comparison” show an effort to connect information. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the response moves between the two charts without a clear plan, and the overview combines several points in one long, loosely connected sequence. The final comparison between age groups and locations is unclear and does not logically follow from the data. Use separate paragraphs for the location chart and the age-group chart, and connect each with precise references such as “By contrast” or “For students aged 11–16.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “location,” “age groups” and “represented,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the meaning less clear. “Dance tutorial” is not a natural description of the chart, and “minimal decrease” incorrectly suggests a change over time rather than a share. There are also misspellings such as “Austrilia,” “constract,” “amd” and “ballot”; the intended dance style is ballet. Aim for accurate chart language and use terms such as “accounted for,” “percentage” and “number of students” consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and linking expressions, but sentence control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between points hard to understand. For example, “overall, the private studio was the highest proportion … while college basedstudios had the lowest number” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “there was school halls which where after-school it took 24%” contains problems with clause formation and subject–verb agreement. The final sentence also has unclear agreement and sentence boundaries. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, plurals and punctuation. A reliable pattern is: “Private studios accounted for 48% of classes, whereas college-based studios made up 10%.”
