Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given charts provide information about the location and the types of dance classes that young people are currently attendin in Auatralia.

To learn a better dance you need a professional instructor and relevant enviorment therefore most people prefer private studios. It can be seen that 48% people choose private studios for dance classes. Schools hall are big so 24% people use school hall for a dance class after the school. People also prefer other locations such as comunity hall and college based studios but less than 20% people prefer these locations.

In second graph, it show's the type of dances that teenagers are currently learning there are three type of dances that most of young people are interested. Ballet dance is very difficult to learn that you have to start practice it from young age therefore aproximately 600 students undre 11 year age group are learning that, this age group of student are also very interested in other dances like tap and modren but the number of student is less than 500 on the other hand student above the 11 but under the 16 are more interested in modern dance about 500 students of this age group learning modern dance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main location, private studios, and report its 48% share, as well as the 24% figure for school halls. You also note the broad contrast that younger children favour ballet while older students favour modern dance. However, the response only partially covers the chart data: it omits the exact shares for community halls and college-based studios, and gives little comparison of the three dance styles across both age groups. For example, the under-11 figures for tap and modern and the older group’s ballet and tap figures are not reported. The explanation about needing a professional instructor and ballet being difficult is speculative rather than a summary of chart information. A clearer overview and more balanced selection of comparisons would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: the first body paragraph discusses locations and the second discusses dance types. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “In second graph” and “on the other hand” attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and the second paragraph combines several points in a long, difficult-to-follow sentence. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “therefore” introducing an unsupported explanation and “but less than 20%” grouping two locations with different shares. Use a concise overview followed by clearly ordered comparisons, and make each sentence focus on one or two related figures. More precise referencing would also help readers follow which age group or dance style is being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “private studios,” “school hall,” “ballet,” “tap,” and “modern dance,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal for a chart report. Phrases such as “To learn a better dance,” “big,” and “people prefer” do not describe the data precisely; the charts show where classes are held and how many students attend each style. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Auatralia,” “enviorment,” “comunity,” and “modren.” Aim for neutral reporting language such as “accounted for,” “attended,” and “the most popular style,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use basic linking structures, but the range is limited and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “the types of dance classes that young people are currently attending” is needed instead of “are currently attendin,” while “there are three type of dances” has an agreement error. The sentence beginning “Ballet dance is very difficult to learn that…” joins ideas incorrectly, and “about 500 students of this age group learning modern dance” is missing a finite verb. Articles, plurals, and sentence punctuation also need attention. These frequent errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses such as “whereas” and “while.”
