Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both charts and identify several important comparisons: private studios are the most common location, while ballet is more popular among under-11s and modern dance among 11–16-year-olds. The figures you give are generally consistent with the chart, including the 48%, 24%, 18% and 10% location shares and the main ballet and modern comparisons. This meets the task well, and the overview gives the reader a useful summary. However, some details are less fully reported: the overview does not mention the older group’s preference for modern dance, and the tap comparison is described as similar even though the figures are about 450 and 420. A more precise overview and clearer reporting of the key contrasts would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the location and age-group data. This helps the reader distinguish the two charts, and contrastive wording such as “but” signals some comparisons. However, progression within the body paragraphs is not always smooth. The location paragraph repeats the private-studio figure after already mentioning it in the overview, while the final paragraph moves through modern, ballet and tap without a consistent comparison pattern. Some links are also unclear, as in “After school end,” and “near all age group students” does not clearly express the relationship between the two tap figures. Grouping each dance by age group, or each age group by dance, would make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main information, including “private studios,” “college-based,” “ballet,” “modern dance” and “age group.” There are also attempts at more specific reporting language, such as “ratio” and “participate.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which makes parts of the report less clear: “dance classes practice,” “children participate in college-based competition,” and “done this steps” do not express the intended chart information precisely. Spelling errors such as “maximun” are noticeable, and “near” is repeatedly used where a more suitable approximation phrase is needed. Aim for accurate, natural chart-reporting expressions rather than adding vocabulary that does not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. For example, the comparison beginning “But 600 students…” communicates the contrast in ballet participation. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as longer clauses. The opening “The given pie chart show” has subject–verb disagreement, while “under age of 11 children learn” lacks a clear article and has awkward word order. Other examples include “24 percent student stay” and “450 students of under 11 age student learn,” where number agreement and sentence construction are faulty. The response would be clearer with carefully controlled subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms, alongside shorter, well-formed comparison sentences.
