Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the two chart topics and report several figures from the age-group chart, including 600 under-11 ballet students and the approximate figures for older students in modern and tap. However, the response only minimally covers the task: it gives no clear overview of the main patterns and barely reports the location chart. The phrase “in private studios and college-based studios” incorrectly links the 600 ballet students to the location percentages; the charts do not show where each dance-type group attends. The location figures—48% in private studios, 24% in school halls, 18% in community halls and other venues, and 10% in college-based studios—should be described separately. Add a concise overview comparing the age-group patterns, then select and accurately compare key figures from both charts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response follows a basic sequence, moving from the location chart to under-11 students and then to the 11–16 group. Connectors such as “On the other hand” and “On comparison” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the information is packed into one long paragraph, and the progression is difficult to follow because location percentages are mixed into the ballet sentence and then treated as if they apply to the other dance types. The repeated “and” clauses also make comparisons feel like a list rather than a structured summary. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the key details, and group the age-group comparisons clearly. Ensure each linking phrase expresses the relationship between the figures that follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “location,” “age groups,” “attending,” and the dance styles “ballet,” “tap,” and “modern.” This is enough to communicate the general subject, but the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “dance classes” and “students are attending” throughout. There are also noticeable word-form and spelling problems, including “informations,” “comparsion,” and “dances classes,” which reduce clarity and control. Build a more varied set of chart-description expressions, such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “the figure for,” while checking spelling and natural collocations. Use precise terms to distinguish venues from class types.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts to combine information in longer sentences, but the structures are often faulty and make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “600 students under 11 age are attending dances classes … which is representing 48% and 10%” has problems with articles, agreement, and clause construction. The opening “this chart give” also has subject–verb agreement and capitalization errors, while “students … are attending” is repeated in ways that produce awkward sentence patterns. Punctuation around phrases such as “On the other hand” is inconsistent. Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then add controlled complex clauses. Check singular and plural agreement, articles before age groups, and sentence boundaries so each figure is clearly connected to its correct chart.
