Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both charts and report several relevant figures, including the 48% attending private studios and the 10% at college-based studios. You also attempt comparisons between age groups in the dance categories. However, the overview is not fully accurate: “majority of youngerster are learning ballet in private studios” combines a location figure with a dance-type claim, and the chart does not show that most students learn ballet in private studios. Some bar-chart details are misreported or unclear: under-11 ballet is about 600, while 11–16 ballet is about 300, but “just under 300 students below 11” reverses the age group. The modern figures are also assigned to the wrong ages. Cover the main contrasts accurately and distinguish the two charts to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs discussing the bar graph and pie chart. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. Linking phrases such as “Looking at the graph in more detail” and “Whereas in the pie chart” help signal shifts, although the latter is an awkward transition and “Whereas” does not form a complete contrast with the preceding paragraph. The overview also joins unrelated information about location and ballet, which weakens the progression of the main points. Organise the body around clear comparisons—first the age-group patterns, then the location shares—and use references such as “the former age group” only when their meaning is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounts for,” “attending,” and “college-based studios,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, several spelling errors and inaccurate word choices reduce precision: “Austrailia,” “youngerster,” “fration,” “approximalty,” “constrast,” and “repectivily.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “modern dance observes above 500 students” and “majority of youngerster.” Choose verbs that describe chart data directly, such as “recorded” or “had,” and use accurate terms like “students” rather than “young adults,” since the chart divides participants into children’s age groups. Proofreading spelling and collocation would make the vocabulary more reliable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex comparison with “whereas,” and most of the intended meaning remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur. The opening says “The pie chart and bar graph illustrates,” where the plural subject requires “illustrate.” Articles and plural forms are also missing or inconsistent in “Overall, majority” and “in a similar proportions.” The sentence beginning “Followed by modern dance” is a fragment, while “Whereas in the pie chart…” is also incomplete as a standalone sentence. Build complete sentences around each comparison, check subject–verb agreement, and use articles and plural forms consistently. These changes would improve control while retaining the range of structures you are attempting.
