Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You report the main location figures accurately: private studios are highest at 48%, followed by school halls at 24%, community halls at 18%, and college-based studios at 10%. You also include comparisons across the three dance styles and age groups. However, the response is only partly successful as a summary because it lacks a clear overview of the most important patterns across both charts. For example, it does not highlight that ballet is most popular among under-11s, while modern is most popular among 11–16-year-olds. The tap figure for older students is also given as around 430 rather than approximately 420. Focus on the key contrasts and state them clearly before adding supporting figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally understandable order: it describes the locations first and then moves to the dance types, with phrases such as “First,” “The third section,” and “Now” helping signal these shifts. This gives the information an overall arrangement. However, the progression is not always smooth, and some links are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “The last one is learning by the student between 11 and 16 is most” makes it difficult to identify the subject and comparison immediately. Paragraphing would also help separate the two charts and make the overview stand out. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each comparison directly to the relevant age group and dance style.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “private studios,” “school halls,” and “ballet,” so the reader can identify the main categories. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning awkward: “the largest percentage number,” “dance teaching centre,” and “the type of dance which is being learn” are examples. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “lagrest,” “metioned,” and “numver.” Aim for concise chart language, such as “accounted for,” “was attended by,” and “the least popular.” Check spelling carefully and avoid adding explanations about how studios are used when the chart does not provide that information.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can usually follow the broad comparisons. However, the range is limited, and errors recur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “classes are taken,” “which is being learn,” and “it is learn by 600 student”; these need forms such as “classes are held” or “600 students learn ballet.” The sentence beginning “The last one is learning by the student…” is also structurally unclear. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise accurate comparative sentences with a clear subject and verb, and proofread each sentence for agreement and verb form.
