Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios account for the largest share at 48%, and you report the 18% and 24% figures for community and school halls. You also include figures for all three dance styles and both age groups. However, the overview is unclear and contains a factual error: the chart shows four locations and three dance types, not four types of location and three types of dances as phrased, and it does not show that the under-11 group has more students overall. College-based studios, the smallest location share at 10%, are mentioned in the overview but not quantified later. The response is also 147 words, below the required 150. A clearer overview and accurate comparisons would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to location data and then dance-type figures. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is weakened by the unclear overview and by the final paragraph, where the age-group comparisons are presented in a repetitive sequence without a clear organising pattern. For example, the ballet, tap and modern figures are listed in turn, but the comparisons between age groups are not consistently expressed. Some linking phrases, such as “Regarding the location” and “There are different types,” help signal topic changes, but connections between ideas remain limited. Group the dance figures by age group or style and use clear comparison language to improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “largest proportion,” “community halls,” and “private studios,” so the reader can identify the main categories and figures. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which makes parts of the report difficult to interpret. Examples include “give illustrates on,” “highest amount of percentage of classes location,” and “classes likes ballet.” Repeated use of “members” is also imprecise for the chart, which reports numbers of students. Aim for concise, conventional data-reporting expressions and vary terms such as “share,” “proportion,” and “number of students.” More accurate collocations would make the information clearer and more formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer comparisons, but control of sentence structure is weak and errors occur frequently. The opening, “The charts below give illustrates,” combines incompatible verb forms, while “The highest amount … are private studios” has problems with agreement and sentence construction. Several later comparisons are also incomplete or awkwardly formed, such as “The modern dance classes age of under 11 age groups 300 members.” Articles, plurals and punctuation are inconsistently handled, and the overview contains run-on wording. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships between figures unclear. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “Among under-11s, ballet was most popular, at 600 students.”
