Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify one important feature accurately: private studios account for the largest share (48%), while college-based studios are the smallest (10%). You also mention ballet as the leading class for children under 11 and modern as the leading class for those aged 11–16. However, the response only partially summarises the charts. It does not clearly report the other location shares or compare the two age groups across all three dance styles. Some details are confused or inaccurate: “community halls and other 182” appears to mix a percentage with a student count, and the under-11 tap figure is given as “4500” rather than about 450. The overview’s reference to an “upward and downward trend” is not a clear description of these categorical data. Select the main comparisons and report them precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response into an opening, an overview and further details, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” show an effort to connect ideas. However, the information is not arranged in a clear progression: the third paragraph shifts between age groups, locations and dance styles, while the final paragraph combines unrelated figures in one sentence. Some linking expressions do not show a meaningful contrast, and references such as “the graph” and “the otherside” leave the reader unsure which chart or group is being discussed. A clearer structure would describe the location chart in one paragraph and compare the three dance styles by age group in another, using direct comparisons and consistent references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “private studios,” “college based studios,” “ballet,” “tap” and “modern,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range of reporting language is limited, and several word choices or forms make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “highest rank on graph” is not a natural way to describe the largest student total, while “10% competetion” does not convey the intended comparison. Spelling errors such as “odf,” “uner” and “studemts” also reduce clarity. Build a small set of accurate chart phrases—such as “accounted for,” “the largest proportion,” and “the number of students taking”—and check spelling and word forms before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including an overview beginning “Overall” and a comparison introduced by “while.” However, control of sentence structure is inconsistent, and several sentences are difficult to interpret. Examples include “the private studios 48% was the highest” and “the number of students which in show on chart ballet on top,” where missing or incorrect verb forms and sentence construction obscure the relationships between the figures. Articles and agreement are also unreliable in phrases such as “for a young people” and “the types … was.” To improve, use complete, controlled patterns such as “Private studios were the most common location, at 48%” and “Ballet attracted 600 under-11s, compared with 300 students aged 11–16.”
