Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and identify several important features: private studios are the most common location at 48%, college-based studios the least common at 10%, and ballet is highest among under-11s. The comparison that modern is most popular among 11–16-year-olds is also relevant. However, some figures and comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: the older group’s modern figure is about 520, not 530, and tap is about 450 for under-11s but 420 for the older group, rather than almost 450 for both. The overview is present, but it would be stronger if it clearly summarised the contrasting age-group preferences and the main location pattern before giving details. This makes coverage relevant but unevenly developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on locations, a paragraph on dance types, and a concluding summary. This makes the two charts easy to distinguish, and linking phrases such as “Additionally” and “Overall” help guide the reader. The conclusion also brings together the main preferences. To make the progression more effective, avoid repeating the overview in the conclusion and organise the bar-chart details in a more systematic comparison—for example, compare each dance across the two age groups. Some transitions, such as “Morever” introducing another figure, feel mechanical, and the relationship between the tap figures is not clearly expressed. The organisation is coherent, though cohesion and comparison could be more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “pie chart,” “bar chart,” “total,” “age group,” and “percent,” so the topic is generally clear. There are also attempts at varied phrasing, such as “As far as the locations are concerned.” However, several word choices and collocations are awkward: people “attend” classes rather than “have” them, and “the greatest number” is more natural than “the greatest number” only when clearly tied to students. “Dance practices” is less suitable here than “dance classes.” Spelling errors such as “loactaions,” “eductaional,” “percenatge,” “Morever,” and “prefered” are noticeable. More precise, consistently accurate vocabulary would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the information remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur. The opening says “The pie and bar charts … illustrates,” where the plural subject requires “illustrate.” In “most of the youngsters take classes … which shows 48 percent,” the relative clause has an unclear reference; a direct construction such as “Private studios account for 48%” would be clearer. The phrase “300 students under age of 11-16 do Ballet” also has an incorrect age-group construction and article use. There are some errors in agreement, sentence construction, and punctuation, although they do not generally prevent the reader from following the report. Aim for accurate, direct comparisons alongside your more complex sentences.
