Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both charts and give a clear overview: private studios are the most common location, college-based studios the least common, and dance preferences differ by age. Most figures are reported accurately, including the location percentages and the main contrasts between age groups. This meets the task well, with some features developed more fully than others. However, the overview says ballet and tap account for most of the under-11 group, although ballet is clearly highest and modern is lowest; the key contrast is that ballet leads among younger students while modern leads among older ones. Some comparisons are also imprecise: for example, tap for the older group is about 420, not simply “approximately 400.” State the main contrasts precisely to strengthen the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a sensible overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on locations, and one on dance types. This makes the two charts easy to distinguish, and sequencing words such as “Then” and “The opposite pattern” help show comparisons. However, some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly “Overall, location that accurate most…” and the long final sentence, which combines several figures without clear boundaries. The age-group comparisons would be easier to follow if each group were described in parallel order—for example, ballet, tap, then modern for both groups. Use clearer sentence divisions and references so that the progression remains smooth rather than relying mainly on basic linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted,” “preferred,” and “age group,” and you attempt to describe peaks, decreases, and contrasts. This gives you enough language to communicate the main information, but inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear. Examples include “attendant” for attending, “Bellet,” “accounte,” “perefered,” and “dippind.” Phrases such as “location that accurate most” and “amounted to the lowest proportion” are also unnatural. Aim for precise, conventional expressions such as “the most popular venue” and “the figure fell to.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural collocations would make your descriptions more fluent and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons between age groups and clauses introduced by “where.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, sentence construction, and verb forms recur. For example, “The pie and bar charts illustrates” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “Private studios has dominated” has the same agreement problem. The sentence beginning “Types of dances were rated by age group” becomes difficult to follow because its clauses are not joined clearly. There are also missing or incorrect grammatical forms in phrases such as “600 student” and “the age group under 11 year.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build shorter, complete sentences before adding subordinate clauses.
