Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response covers both charts and gives a clear overview: private studios are identified as the leading venue, college-based studios as the least used, and the preferred dance styles differ by age group. Most figures are reported accurately, including the location shares and the approximate student totals for ballet, tap and modern. The comparisons are relevant, particularly the near-equal tap figures and the contrast between younger students’ preference for ballet and older students’ preference for modern. This is a well-supported account of the main features. To make the reporting more precise, avoid describing ballet as the “lowest number of students in this category” without clarifying that this refers to the 11–16 group, and state the age-group comparisons consistently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the location and class-type charts. This makes the information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Regarding,” and “Meanwhile” help signal shifts and comparisons. The main progression is logical, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “On bar chart” does not smoothly introduce the final paragraph, and the long final sentence combines several comparisons without clear punctuation. The overview also repeats “takes the top spot,” which makes the phrasing less controlled. Use more varied transitions and divide dense comparisons into shorter sentences to strengthen cohesion and paragraph flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses enough chart-related vocabulary to communicate the main information, including “account for,” “attendance,” “category,” and “most famous.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for formal data reporting. “Least famous” and “most famous” describe popularity imprecisely; “least used” and “most popular” would fit better. There are also spelling errors such as “Austrailia,” “collage-based,” “spo,” and “amoung,” alongside repeated wording such as “takes the top spot.” These errors are noticeable and sometimes distract from the data, although the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Build a more precise set of verbs for describing proportions and comparisons, and proofread spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “which.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors recur in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “Ballet take the top spot” should be “Ballet takes the top spot,” while “private studios accounts” should be “private studios account.” The phrase “under 11 students are upto 450” is also awkwardly structured, and the final sentence runs several ideas together without a full stop. These problems do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall comparisons, but they reduce accuracy. Check subject–verb agreement and use complete, clearly punctuated sentences when reporting each figure.
