Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given pie chart gives information about four different dance classes, which teenagers are recently participitating in Australia, whereas the table depict the types of dance class.

Overall, private studio has been the most popular location for dance class, while collage based studio has got less attention. Although, maximum number of youths under 11 are attending ballet dance class, teenageers aged 11-16 seems to be more interested towards modern dance.

In detail, nearly half of the students attenting dance classes found private studio to be the perfect location, while only one-tenth found collage based studio to be approproate. Around quarter of youths are enrolled in dance class located in the school hall which has made them easiler to attend just after school hour and 18% are taking their classes in community hall and other location.

Regarding the type, approximately 620 youth under 11 are attenting ballet dance class which is attended by only 300 students of higher age. Tap dance class seems to attract nearly equall number of sudents which is 400 in average. 300 youths aged under 11 are attending modern dance which is nearly double interms of 11-16 aged people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: private studios account for the largest share, college-based studios the smallest, and the leading dance style differs by age group. Most figures are accurately reported, including the location percentages and the approximate ballet and modern figures. However, one comparison is unclear or inaccurate: you say modern attracts “nearly double” the number of 11–16-year-olds, but the chart shows about 520 in that group compared with 300 under-11s. The tap figures are also better described separately (about 450 and 420), rather than as an average. The explanation that school halls are easier to attend adds an unsupported reason. More precise comparisons and a fuller account of the age-group patterns would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details about location and dance type. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish the two chart topics, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In detail,” and “Regarding the type” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are less effective, however: “Although” begins a sentence without a contrasting clause, and the final modern-dance comparison is difficult to interpret because “nearly double” does not clearly identify which age group is larger. The overview also combines several points in one sentence. To make cohesion more flexible and precise, use contrast markers only where the relationship is clear and refer explicitly to each age group when comparing figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “popular location,” “enrolled,” “attract,” and “approximately,” so the main information is generally understandable. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “participitating,” “collage,” “approproate,” “easiler,” and “equall” are misspelled, while “perfect location” and “found … to be” sound subjective or unnatural for describing chart data. “Dance classes” is also incorrectly used where you mean locations, and “in average” is not the appropriate expression. Aim for accurate, neutral reporting language and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more reliable and appropriate to an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a contrast with “while” and a relative clause in “the school hall which has made them easier to attend.” The main comparisons are usually understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the table depict” has subject–verb disagreement, “private studio has been” needs a plural subject or article, and “teenagers … are recently participating” uses an awkward tense construction. There are also problems with articles and number agreement in phrases such as “the type” and “300 youths … are attending.” The sentence beginning “Although” is incomplete in its use of a subordinating conjunction. Review agreement, articles, and clause construction, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
