Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both charts and provide a clear overview, identifying private studios as the largest location share and college-based studios as the smallest. You also capture the main age-group contrast: ballet leads among under-11s, while modern is highest for 11–16-year-olds. Most figures are accurately reported, including the location percentages and the under-11 ballet figure. However, the overview says modern was “most choosen” for the older group without giving its approximate value, and the body reports 500 rather than about 520. The tap figures are also understated, especially for the younger group (450, not 400). To strengthen the report, include the key modern figure and compare the remaining dance styles more precisely, while keeping the overview focused on the main patterns.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear four-paragraph structure: introduction, overview, location details and dance-type details. The progression is easy to follow, and transitions such as “Overall,” “Regarding,” and “Turning to” help signal changes in focus. The two charts are sensibly discussed separately, which supports a logical account. Some linking within sentences is less controlled, however: “followed by second largest location were School halls represented the 24%” combines two structures and makes the comparison awkward. The final paragraph also lists figures without fully developing the contrast between the age groups. Use cleaner comparison patterns, such as “School halls ranked second, at 24%,” and connect the figures to the overall differences more explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “largest share,” “represented,” and “preferred,” so the charts remain understandable. There are also some attempts at varied phrasing, such as “Turning to” and “comprising.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “most people were presented” does not describe a chart share, “largest proportion of dance” is unclear, and “most choosen” contains a spelling error and an unsuitable form. Repetition of “type of dance class” and “group of students” also limits flexibility. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, for example “accounted for,” “the most popular style,” and “students aged 11–16.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the opening contrast between the charts and the overview’s coordinated comparison. Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur and make several sentences awkward. For example, “The pie chart provides information the location” needs “on the location,” while “College-based studios represented the smallest proportion of people joined the classes” has an unclear clause structure. In “the largest proportion … accounted for 48%,” the subject and verb do not fit together, and “the 11-16 age of group” has faulty word order. Build accuracy by using straightforward patterns such as “Private studios accounted for 48%” and “Among students aged 11–16, modern was the most popular style.”
