Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and give a clear overview of the main contrasts: private studios are the leading location, younger children favour ballet, and the older group favours modern dance. Several figures are reported accurately, including 24% for school halls and about 600 under-11 ballet students. However, some comparisons are incomplete or unclear. You call community halls and college-based halls the least common, but do not distinguish their shares (18% and 10%); college-based studios are the least common. More importantly, the overview says tap is equally preferred, while the chart shows 450 under-11 students and about 420 aged 11–16. The final paragraph also says tap and ballet are not commonly preferred by older students without giving their figures. More precise comparisons and a fully accurate overview would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for location and dance type. This makes the two chart topics easy to identify, and linking words such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Whereas” help signal contrasts. At times, though, these links are mechanical or create fragments: “Whereas using community halls…” and “Whereas Tap and Ballet…” are not complete sentences in this context. The overview also combines location and age-group preferences in one long sentence, making the relationships less clear. Grouping the location figures together and then comparing the two age groups more systematically would improve progression. Use fewer contrast markers where the relationship is already clear, and ensure each sentence expresses a complete idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “private studios,” “age group,” and “approximately,” so the reader can understand the subject and most comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision. “Most prefered location” is an awkward way to describe the largest share, while “go in private studios” is not a natural collocation. Repeated use of “common” and “prefer” also makes the description less varied. Spelling errors such as “childern,” “usauallly,” “pratice,” and “Austalia” are noticeable. Aim for accurate, chart-appropriate phrases such as “accounted for the largest proportion” and “attended classes at,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “however,” and the main message is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “half of the youth likes” should use a plural verb with “youth” in this meaning, and “24% of children … goes” should be “go.” The opening overview phrase “it is seen that” is also awkwardly constructed, and the standalone “Whereas” clauses are incomplete sentences. There is some control of basic sentence patterns, but greater accuracy in agreement and complete clause structure is needed. Practise combining comparisons into full sentences and checking each subject against its verb.
