Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify several relevant figures from the location chart, including private studios at 48%, school halls at 24%, community halls and other venues at 18%, and college-based studios at 10%. However, the overview is inaccurate: ballet is not the largest class overall, and modern is not the smallest when both age groups are considered. The response also confuses venues with dance types, claiming that students attend classes at private studios and then describing age-group figures as if they were linked to that venue. Several figures are misreported: under-11 students in modern number about 300, not 500, and tap is about 450, not 400. The response is only 108 words, below the required 150, and leaves much of the age-group comparison unreported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening, an overview, a paragraph about locations, and a final paragraph about class types. Some linking expressions, such as “Initially” and “Regarding,” signal movement between points. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the final paragraph shifts from venue percentages to age-group data without clearly explaining that these are separate charts. The overview also does not prepare the reader for the details that follow. Several links are awkward or misleading, including “same as” before the community-hall figure and “nevertheless” before the college-studio figure. Use distinct paragraphs for the two charts and connect comparisons directly and accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “proportion,” “private studio,” “community halls,” and the dance-style labels “ballet,” “tap,” and “modern.” This gives the reader some access to the chart information. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “modes of dancing classes,” “ballet group,” and “tap has consist group.” There are also spelling and form errors, including “collage” for “college” and “australia” without a capital letter. Aim for precise chart language, such as “share of classes by venue,” “number of students,” and “the most popular style,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors often make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “the pie chart illustrates provide information” combines incompatible verb forms, while “private studio have the 48% proportion” has problems with agreement and article use. The sentence beginning “there is 600 people are involved” also combines two sentence patterns, and “under 11 students are join this class” uses an incorrect verb form. Punctuation and spacing are frequently faulty, as in “overall, ballet” and “48%proportion.” Build accurate short sentences first, then add comparisons using controlled clauses; check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
