Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify two accurate headline features: private studios have the largest share (48%), and college-based studios the smallest (10%); you also note that ballet leads among under-11s and modern dance among 11–16-year-olds. However, the response is only 53 words, well below the required 150, and it stops after “Moreover,” without reporting the chart’s key comparisons or supporting the overview with figures. For example, the older group’s modern figure is about 520, while the younger group’s is about 300; ballet shows the reverse pattern. The location percentages are also not developed beyond the extremes. To address the task more fully, include a complete summary of both charts and compare the main values.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview beginning “Overall,” and the two charts are at least mentioned. This gives the reader a starting point, but the response does not progress into a body paragraph with details, and the final “Moreover,” is an unfinished transition that leaves the text incomplete. As a result, the information is not arranged into a coherent, complete report. Build a clear sequence: introduce what each chart shows, give an overview, then use separate paragraphs to compare location shares and dance styles by age. Use linking phrases only when they connect complete ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “largest,” “smallest share,” and “preferred,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is narrow and several choices or spellings are inaccurate: “dance classes location are formed” is not a natural way to describe the chart, while “amoung” and “preffered” are misspelled. “Dance styles” or “types of dance” would be clearer than repeating “dance,” and “account for” is a useful phrase for describing percentages. To improve, use precise chart language such as “the proportion of classes held at…” and “the number of students taking…”, and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both a simple opening and a more developed overview sentence, including a contrast with “whereas.” The meaning of the main comparisons can be understood, but grammatical control is uneven. In “This chart shows the dance classes location are formed,” the clause structure is faulty; a clearer construction would be “The charts show where classes are held and which styles young people attend.” The phrase “the modern dance is preferred” also uses an unnecessary article before a general dance style. The response is too short to demonstrate a wider range of sentence forms, and “Moreover,” is left without a following clause. Practise complete, accurate sentences before adding more complex structures.
