Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and give a relevant overview: private studios are the largest location category, college-based studios the smallest, and ballet and modern show contrasting age-group patterns. Most location figures are reported accurately. However, the overview says ballet is more popular among under-11s and modern among 11–16s without identifying the important exception that tap is nearly equal (450 versus 420). The bar-chart details also include inaccurate or vague reporting: under-11 ballet is about 600, not above 600, and the 11–16 modern figure is about 520. “The tap dance contain similar student” is too unclear to report the comparison precisely. More exact figures and a clearer account of all three styles would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie and bar charts. This makes the information broadly easy to follow, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” signal transitions. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated patterns such as “they contain” and “in the chart.” The contrast marker “On the other hand” does not express a strong opposition between the charts. Some references are also unclear, particularly “they” in the final paragraph, where the reader must infer which age group or dance style is meant. Use more precise linking and reference, and group comparisons directly—for example, compare the two age groups for each dance style.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “percentage,” “largest,” “smallest,” “popular,” and “in contrast,” so the main information is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated or imprecise. Phrases such as “contain largest propotion,” “more famous,” and “well known” are not natural choices for describing the number of students attending classes; “account for” and “attract” would be more suitable. There are also spelling errors, including “propotion,” “intersted,” and “australia.” Aim for accurate chart language and check spelling, while varying repeated words such as “contain” and “group.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including comparisons introduced by “while” and “however,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence structure appear in examples such as “the ballet dance are more famous” and “the bar chart tell us.” Articles and plural forms are also often missing or incorrect: “contain largest percentage” and “above 600 student.” Several sentences run together without appropriate punctuation, notably the overview and the pie-chart paragraph, which makes the relationships between ideas less clear. To improve, check subject–verb agreement, use plural nouns where needed, and separate complete sentences with full stops. Practising accurate comparative sentence patterns will help you express the chart data more clearly.
