Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: private studios are the most common location, while the dance preferences differ by age. Most figures are accurately reported, including the 48%, 24%, 18% and 10% location shares, and the main contrasts in ballet and modern are identified. The comparison of tap is also relevant, although the chart shows about 450 students under 11 and 420 aged 11–16, rather than equal numbers or around 430 in each group. The overview could be more informative by stating the key age-group pattern directly: younger students favour ballet, whereas older students favour modern. This addresses the task well, but some comparisons and details are less fully developed or precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on locations and one on dance types. This makes the two charts easy to distinguish. You also use basic linking and contrast, such as “while” and “meanwhile,” to connect information. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “The student from school showing interest…” and “The juvenile are only 300 in modern classes,” where the reader must work out which age group is meant. The overview’s “three different form” sentence is also vague rather than clearly summarising the age comparison. Use explicit references such as “students under 11” and “those aged 11–16,” and organise the final paragraph around direct comparisons between the groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “accounted for,” “proportion,” “least,” and “interest,” so the topic remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “the pie chart illustrate regarding” is not a natural way to introduce the visual, and “mostly occupied by private studio” does not clearly describe the share of classes. “Flow chart” is also the wrong chart type; the second visual compares numbers by age group. Prefer precise, conventional terms such as “bar chart,” “share,” “percentage,” and “number of students.” Avoid substituting “folks” or “juvenile” for “students,” as these are unsuitable or imprecise in this formal report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “while,” and the paragraph structure helps convey the main information. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. Examples include “The pie chart illustrate,” “The dance classes held,” and “The number of students show,” where the verb forms do not agree with the subjects or require auxiliary verbs. The sentence “One form of dance which being the same amount…” is also structurally incomplete. Check singular and plural subjects, use articles where needed, and build comparisons in complete clauses—for example, “Tap attracted about 450 students under 11 and 420 students aged 11–16.” These corrections would make your meaning more consistently clear.
