Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant features, including the largest location share (private studios, 48%) and the main age-group contrasts: under-11s favour ballet (about 600), while 11–16-year-olds have their highest figure for modern dance (about 520). However, the report covers the charts only partially. It omits the other location figures and does not compare all three dance styles across both age groups; for example, tap is about 450 for under-11s and 420 for older students. Some descriptions are also inaccurate or unclear: “lowest proportions” for older students should refer to ballet, and the chart gives student numbers rather than proportions for dance types. A more complete overview and accurate comparisons would make the key features clearer and better developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview of dance types, and a final comment on locations. This gives the reader some sense of the two charts, and linking expressions such as “Overall” and “Moreover” signal relationships between points. However, the progression is limited because the discussion moves between age groups and locations without a clear, systematic structure. The final paragraph is very brief, while the overview repeats “highest” and “lowest” rather than grouping the main comparisons. Some linking phrases are awkward or repetitive, including “In additionally.” Organise the body into a paragraph for locations and one for dance types, and use clear comparisons to connect related figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “proportions,” and “age group,” so the topic is generally understandable. There is also an attempt to vary wording with phrases such as “highest number” and “lowest number.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing the charts. “Dance parties” suggests social events rather than classes, and “perform ballet dance” is an awkward collocation. Repeated use of “students” and “dance” also makes the report less precise. Use chart-appropriate terms such as “classes,” “attend,” “figure,” and “share,” while distinguishing percentages for locations from student numbers for dance styles.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and uses some subordinate structures, for example, “It shows that the highest number of people who are under 11 years…” However, these attempts are often faulty, and sentence control is inconsistent. The opening has a subject–verb agreement error (“charts… illustrates”) and an unclear construction after “illustrates.” Verb forms are also problematic in “they are perform modern dance,” while “students who are perform ballet” combines incompatible verb patterns. The sentence about the lowest figure for older students is difficult to follow because of its clause structure. Use simpler, accurate patterns such as “The charts show…” and “Among under-11s, ballet is the most popular class,” then build complexity only when the grammar remains controlled.
