Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and report the main location proportions accurately: private studios are highest at 48%, while college-based studios are lowest at 10%. You also compare the age groups across ballet, tap and modern, with the figures matching the chart. The overview identifies the key contrast between ballet and modern, although calling the students “adults” is inaccurate because the chart shows young people aged under 11 and 11–16. The overview could also make the overall pattern clearer: under-11s lead in ballet, while 11–16-year-olds lead in modern, and tap figures are relatively similar. These accurate details and relevant comparisons address the task well, but some key features are not fully synthesised.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for location and dance types. This helps the reader distinguish the two charts. However, progression within the overview is weakened by the abrupt “Whereas” and “Although” constructions, and the transition to the detailed figures is somewhat mechanical. The final paragraph lists each dance type in sequence but does not group or compare the age patterns clearly. Some linking is also awkward, such as “However” before the modern-class figures, where no contrast with the preceding tap figures is clearly established. Use complete, logically connected overview sentences and organise the age-group comparisons more deliberately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “followed by,” “attended,” and “age group,” so the meaning is generally clear. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “Most of the proportion adults attends” is difficult to interpret, and “total proportion” is less natural than “overall share.” “Adults” is also an unsuitable label for the two groups of young people. Spelling errors such as “consiting” and inconsistent forms such as “college based” reduce accuracy. The vocabulary range is adequate for describing the charts, but greater precision and more natural phrasing would make the comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons introduced by “while” and “in contrast.” However, errors in agreement, sentence construction and punctuation are noticeable. For example, “The charts illustrates” should use a plural verb, and “the greatest number of adults ranging from age 11-16 years” has an unclear grammatical relationship between the people and the age range. The sentence beginning “Although, ballet…” is also not correctly formed, while “520 students … takes” has a subject–verb agreement error. Missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent comma use further affect accuracy. Aim for complete, controlled sentences and check subject–verb agreement and clause structure.
