Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios lead at 48%, while college-based studios are lowest at 10%. The comparisons for school halls and community halls are also correct. You report several age-group figures, including the under-11 ballet peak and the older group’s higher modern participation. However, the overview says both ballet and modern had the highest numbers, which is unclear: ballet is highest for under-11s, while modern is highest for 11–16-year-olds. The tap figures are also imprecise; the chart shows about 450 and 420, not almost 500 for both groups. A clearer overview distinguishing the leading dance style in each age group would make the key features more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the location and dance-type charts. Phrases such as “Overall,” “Having a closer look,” and “Further scrutinizing” signal the movement between sections. The information is generally easy to follow, but some linking is mechanical, and the final paragraph would benefit from a more deliberate sequence of comparisons. For example, present the three dance styles in turn and compare the two age groups within each, rather than moving from ballet to tap and then modern without a consistent pattern. The overview also needs a clearer link between each age group and its leading style.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “constituted,” “adolescents,” and “scrutinizing,” and the chart categories are mostly communicated clearly. There are, however, several inaccurate or awkward choices that reduce precision. “Recorded for” is not a natural way to describe a figure, and “location … accounted fir” contains a spelling error. “Ballet and modern dance recorded for highest number” is also imprecise because the leading style differs by age group. Some expressions, such as “dance classess” and “bkth,” contain spelling errors. Aim for straightforward, accurate reporting verbs and collocations rather than formal-sounding phrases that do not fit the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “whereas” and a sentence beginning “Having a closer look.” However, some errors in sentence structure and agreement are noticeable. The opening sentence needs plural agreement (“The pie chart illustrates”) and a parallel structure for the two charts. In “Students under age 11 participate in ballet dance recorded for almost 600,” the verb sequence is incomplete and makes the relationship between the students and the figure difficult to follow. “Adolescents mostly participates” also has subject–verb disagreement, while “which is followed by school halls constituted for 24%” combines incompatible structures. Use complete clauses with consistent tense and check agreement and sentence boundaries.
