Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: private studios have the largest share, college-based studios the smallest, and ballet changes from the leading style among under-11s to the least popular among 11–16-year-olds. Most figures are grounded in the chart, including the approximate 600 for younger ballet students and just over 500 for older students taking modern. However, the overview and comparisons are not fully developed: the older group’s tap figure and its comparison with the other styles are omitted, and the younger tap figure is given as around 480 rather than approximately 450. The response therefore addresses the task well overall, but some details are less complete or precise. Include the missing comparison and check figures against the chart to strengthen coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about dance styles and then locations. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships. However, progression is weakened by the order of information: the paragraph about dance styles ends abruptly at “ballet is the least,” before the location figures are introduced, so the comparison is left incomplete and the final paragraph feels disconnected. The overview also repeats information that is later reported in detail. Group the two age groups together, complete each comparison, and then present the location data in a separate paragraph. This would make the organisation clearer and reduce reliance on basic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportions,” “attending,” “popular,” and “least popular,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. There is some variety in describing the charts, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “attractes the large percentage of the crowd,” “gather almost half of the population,” and “most attended.” Repeated use of “popular” and “students” also limits flexibility. Choose precise collocations for chart data: for example, studios “account for” a share, while students “attend” classes or a style is “the most popular.” Check spelling and word forms, including “Australia” and “attracts.” More accurate, natural phrasing would improve clarity and range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “in contrast” and a clause beginning “with almost 600 students attending it.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. In the overview, “private studios attractes” has incorrect verb form, and “college-based studios attracts” has subject–verb disagreement. The phrase “among children under the age of 11” is followed by “in contrast” without suitable punctuation or a clear sentence boundary. Other patterns, such as “age between 11-16,” need a grammatical subject and more natural construction. Use complete, clearly punctuated sentences and check agreement and articles; for example, “Among those aged 11–16, modern is the most popular style.”
