Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the main location figures accurately: private studios are the largest share at 48%, while college-based studios are the smallest at 10%, and you include comparisons for the other locations. You also report several age-group figures. However, important data are misread: modern classes are about 300 students under 11 and 520 aged 11–16, not 550 and 300. Tap for the older group is about 420, rather than 430. The overview is also inaccurate: the largest under-11 group is ballet, but modern is not the smallest; modern is the smallest for under-11s, while ballet is the smallest for 11–16s. The response therefore covers the charts only partially and needs a more accurate overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a basic sequence, moving from the pie chart to the bar chart, and phrases such as “At first glance” and “Moving further” signal a change of focus. This gives the reader some organisation. However, the information is presented in one continuous paragraph, with no clear separation between an introduction, overview and supporting details. Several transitions are awkward or repetitive, including “After scrutinising the whole data,” and the final summary does not clearly connect to the comparisons above. Group the response into paragraphs and use a concise overview before the detailed figures. Clearer links between each age group and its dance types would also improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of descriptive language, including “biggest slice,” “smallest slice,” “percentage” and “scrutinising,” and the reader can generally understand the topic. However, vocabulary is often imprecise or incorrectly formed, which makes the report less natural: “The provide pie chart,” “catageries,” and “gistbis” are examples. Some expressions are also unsuitable for describing chart data, such as saying a slice is “coverd” by a category or that a dance “is performed by” a number of students. Use standard chart-reporting collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “accounted for,” “participated in” and “the proportion” would help communicate the data clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and some basic information remains understandable. However, sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently, including in clauses that carry key comparisons. For example, “Their is 600 students age group under 11 take ballet” has problems with the existential construction, agreement and clause structure; “the gistbis that their are llarge number” is also difficult to parse. Articles, plurals and punctuation are inconsistent, as seen in “the biggest slice” followed by “location for dannce classes.” Aim for complete, controlled sentences, such as “Among under-11s, 600 students take ballet, compared with 300 aged 11–16.” Check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
