Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two chart topics and report some key figures accurately, including private studios at 48%, school halls at 24%, and the approximate figures for ballet among under-11s and modern among 11–16-year-olds. You also make a useful comparison between tap participation in the two age groups. However, the summary is only partial: the location figures for community halls and other venues (18%) and college-based studios (10%) are not both clearly reported, and the dance-class comparisons omit or misstate important values. For example, ballet is higher among under-11s, while modern is higher among 11–16-year-olds; the response does not clearly compare all three styles. Add a concise overview of the main patterns and report the missing contrasts accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence, moving from class locations to dance types, and uses simple signposts such as “Firstly” and “Now” to separate the two charts. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several comparisons are difficult to follow, particularly “The amount of teen students in ballet and contrast to children students in modern is also of the same.” The linking phrases “following with that” and “Also” are repetitive or awkward, so relationships between figures are not always clear. Organise the response into a clear introduction, an overview, and focused detail paragraphs, grouping related comparisons and using precise links such as “whereas” and “by contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “location,” “private studios,” “school halls,” and the names of the dance styles. This shows a basic ability to describe the visual information. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear: “most of the area is occupied by” does not naturally describe a percentage, while “ballet is most important in children” does not express participation. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “vey,” “hund ered,” “fiftty,” and “adn,” which reduce clarity. Choose vocabulary that describes proportions and numbers directly, and check spelling carefully. For example, use “accounted for” or “participated” rather than literal or imprecise phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, including comparisons joined with “following with that” and “Also,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences have faulty structures that make the intended relationships hard to understand, such as “The area which is vey less in space and is obtained by the college based studios” and “The amount of teen students in ballet and contrast to children students in modern is also of the same.” Articles, prepositions, and sentence construction also need attention; for instance, “in a town of Australia” is not a well-formed location phrase. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and attempts to combine ideas are often inaccurate. Practise writing clear subject–verb sentences and use straightforward comparative structures, such as “Tap attracted similar numbers in both age groups.”
