Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both charts and identify the main location figures, including private studios as the largest share (48%) and college-based studios as the smallest (10%). You also report the key age-group values for ballet, tap and modern, so the response addresses the task. However, some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate: the under-11 figures are described as declining “from 600 to 450,” although these are separate dance categories, and the 11–16 modern figure is said to rise “from 420 to 520,” when 420 is the tap figure. The overview notes fluctuation but does not clearly summarise the main contrast: younger students favour ballet, while older students favour modern. Make the overview more precise and compare categories directly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the location and age-group charts. This helps the reader follow the two parts of the task. However, progression within the paragraphs is weakened by unclear links and references. For example, “As result, the community halls and other which had less to second” does not clearly explain how the 18% figure relates to the preceding figures. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “Subsequently” are used, but some do not express the relationship between the information accurately. Organise each chart’s figures in a clear order and use direct comparisons rather than relying on linking phrases to create cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “participants,” “Ballet,” “Tap,” and “Modern,” and you attempt to describe change with words such as “rose” and “climb.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or difficult to understand, as in “highest ration,” “less class type,” and “the figure flactuation.” Several spelling errors, including “intersting,” “takinh,” and “approcimately,” also reduce clarity. Some expressions appear to describe trends that are not present, such as “rose dramatically,” because the location chart gives proportions rather than changes over time. Use precise terms such as “accounted for,” “proportion,” and “was higher than,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses beginning with “While” and “Whereas.” However, many sentences are incomplete or have faulty clause structure, which makes relationships between figures hard to follow. For example, “While the lowest percentage in college-based studio” is a fragment, and “the types of dance classes the figure flactuation in both age group” lacks a clear grammatical structure. There are also problems with articles, agreement and verb forms, as in “the highest ration in private studio” and “the Modern climb slightly.” Aim first for complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then add comparisons using accurate structures such as “The figure for ballet was…” or “Older students preferred modern dance, whereas younger students preferred ballet.”
