Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both chart topics and include several relevant figures, such as 48% for private studios and the approximate student numbers for modern and ballet. However, some key information is misreported: school halls account for 24%, not “almost 10%,” and the 10% figure belongs to college-based studios, which you omit. The overview also does not clearly summarise the age-group pattern; saying the “least number of students join dance classes under 11-16” is unclear and does not accurately describe the chart. Your comparison of tap as similar is broadly supported, but the figures (450 and 420) would make this clearer. More accurate reporting and a concise overview of the main contrasts are needed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of location and dance types. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, “Initially” and “However” do not express a clear contrast in the location paragraph, and “While” and “Whereas” are used in ways that leave the relationships between figures unclear. The transition “Moving ahead the remaining details” is also awkward. Grouping the location figures in a clear sequence, then comparing the age groups by dance type, would improve cohesion. Use linking words only when their logical relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “attend,” and “age groups,” and the reader can generally understand the topic. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “the proportion incline by 24%” does not clearly express the school-hall figure, while “prefer modern type dance” and “choose ballet dance” sound unnatural. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “higest,” “particpate,” “leaners,” and “simliar.” These reduce precision in a task where accurate descriptions of data are important. Build a small set of reliable expressions for reporting percentages and comparing numbers, and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “While” and “However,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences have faulty structure or missing grammatical elements, such as “In an overview, it is evident that higest proportion…” and “Moving ahead the remaining details.” Verb forms and agreement also need attention: “this proportion incline” should use a past or present form that agrees with the subject, and “the case of tap type dance remain” lacks correct agreement and sentence structure. Some punctuation around sentence openings and contrast clauses further obscures meaning. Practise writing clear simple comparisons first, then add subordinate clauses while checking articles, verb agreement, and complete sentence structure.
