Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios lead at 48%, while college-based studios are lowest at 10%, and you also give the other location shares. Your overview correctly notes that ballet leads among under-11s and modern leads among 11–16s. However, the response does not report any figures or comparisons from the age-group chart, so this part of the task is much less fully addressed than the location chart. The response is also 23 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail available. To strengthen the report, include key values such as 600 versus 300 for ballet and 300 versus 520 for modern, and compare tap, where the figures are similar.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing the location chart. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile,” and “By contrast” help signal the relationships between points. However, the discussion stops after the location data, leaving the second chart without its own developed paragraph; this interrupts the progression expected for a summary of both visuals. Some linking is also formulaic, and the overview’s two chart features are not followed through with supporting details. Add a paragraph on dance styles and use comparisons to connect the age groups, so the report progresses consistently from overview to evidence for both charts.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “locations,” “proportion,” “venues,” and “preferred,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, however: “private studies” appears to mean “private studios,” and “whareas” and “od” are misspelled. “College based studies” is also an inaccurate form of the chart label; “college-based studios” is more precise. The phrase “accounting for 24% of the total” is understandable, though “accounting for 24% of classes” would be more natural. Check spelling carefully and use the chart’s terminology consistently; adding vocabulary for comparisons such as “higher than” and “roughly similar to” would also help describe the omitted age-group data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You show a useful mix of sentence forms, including a complex overview sentence with “while” and a contrast introduced by “By contrast.” Most sentences are easy to understand, and the percentage statements are generally formed clearly. Some grammatical control is still uneven. In “School halls are the second most common location, accounting for 24% of the total,” the participle clause is appropriate, but the following sentence would be clearer with a complete, consistent construction such as “College-based studios account for only 10%.” Hyphenation in “college-based” is also needed for the compound modifier. To build on your existing range, vary sentence structures when comparing the two age groups and proofread punctuation and compound forms.
