Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios lead at 48%, while college-based studios are lowest at 10%; the other two shares are also reported correctly. Your overview also attempts to compare dance preferences by age. However, it contains a key reversal: modern is more popular among 11–16-year-olds, not the under-11 group, and the later sentence repeats this comparison unclearly. The chart’s figures would make the age-group analysis more convincing: under-11s show about 600 for ballet versus 300 among older students, while modern is about 300 versus 520. Tap is indeed similar across groups. This is a relevant, reasonably complete response, but the inaccurate overview and limited numerical support prevent the comparisons from being consistently clear and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details, and the two charts are addressed in separate sections. However, progression is weakened by repeated and sometimes unsuitable linking. “On the other hand” begins both detail paragraphs even though they do not present opposing points, and the location figures largely repeat the overview. The age-group paragraph also moves between ballet, modern and tap without giving a clear sequence of figures. Improve cohesion by grouping the location data together, then comparing the dance types systematically, and use links such as “By contrast” only when a genuine contrast is being made. Clearer references to each age group would also help the reader follow the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentages,” “proportion,” “accounted for,” “popular” and “share,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, spelling and word-form errors are conspicuous, for example “pi chart,” “wherase,” “amoung,” “childern,” “ubder” and “ballat.” Some expressions are also imprecise or awkward, such as “modern dance attracted more student in the under of 11 16 age group.” The repeated use of “popular” and “accounted for” limits flexibility. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and vary the language used to describe chart values and preferences. Proofreading spelling carefully would make your otherwise relevant vocabulary easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “while” and a comparison introduced by “In contrast.” The main ideas can usually be followed, but some grammatical errors remain, particularly in agreement and sentence construction. For example, “the bar chart compare” needs a singular verb, and “modern dance attracted more student” needs a plural noun. The phrase “those age 11 16” is missing a grammatical link, while “in the under of 11 16 age group” is not a well-formed phrase. Punctuation and spacing also need attention, as in “proportion.Ballet” and “48%.college.” Check subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and make age-group comparisons using complete, parallel structures.
