Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both charts and report the main location figures accurately: private studios lead at 48%, followed by school halls at 24%, while college-based studios are lowest at 10%. You also compare the age groups across all three dance styles, and the overview identifies the leading location and the strong interest in ballet among younger children. This gives the response a clear, relevant summary. To make the overview more complete and precise, note that the preferred dance style differs by age: ballet leads for under-11s, whereas modern is highest among 11–16-year-olds. The claim that ballet is more popular among young students is therefore too broad. Some figures are approximate, but the comparisons are generally well selected and supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by one paragraph on locations and another on dance styles. This makes the two sets of information easy to distinguish, and phrases such as “On the other hand” help signal comparisons. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly “According to the given bar chart that” and the repeated use of “On the other hand” where a direct comparison would be clearer. Several sentences also run together or begin with lowercase “while” and “almost,” which interrupts the flow. Use complete, clearly punctuated sentences and connect related figures more smoothly—for example, compare the age groups within each dance style. Overall progression is understandable, though cohesion is not consistently controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “popular,” “attend,” and “approximately,” and the reader can understand the main comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise: “location of dances,” “students can currently perform in dance classes,” and “take participate in tap class.” Repetition of “students,” “classes,” and “attend” also makes the description less flexible. Choose precise reporting verbs and collocations, such as “take classes,” “enrol in,” or “the number of students studying each style.” Be careful to describe what the chart measures: it shows students attending classes, not how many can perform. These word-choice issues are noticeable, although the intended meaning is usually recoverable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer structures, including the contrast between the two age groups. However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the writing difficult to follow. For example, “private studios are most popular place” needs an article, while “Around 470 children take participate” combines incompatible verb forms. The opening sentence also has an unclear structure, and “The 24% people show interest” is not grammatically well formed. Several sentence fragments or run-ons appear around “while” and “almost.” Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences and use a full stop or a correctly joined clause for each idea. More reliable control of basic forms is needed alongside attempts at complex sentences.
