Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and report the main location proportions accurately: private studios are largest at 48%, while college-based studios are smallest at 10%. You also include the key dance figures, and your overview identifies the leading venue and notes ballet’s popularity among younger children. This meets the task well, with some features more fully reported than others. However, the overview is not fully precise: ballet is not the most popular dance overall, since modern leads among 11–16-year-olds, while ballet leads among under-11s. Make this contrast explicit and compare the age groups directly. The tap figure for older students is approximately 420, rather than 430, though this is a small discrepancy.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two charts. This makes the information easy to locate, and phrases such as “According to the pie chart” and “On the other hand” help signal shifts. However, progression within the overview is limited, and the contrast marker “On the other hand” does not always express a clear opposition; the community-hall figure is simply another category. Some references, such as “the percentage of children was very less,” are unclear about what is being compared. To strengthen the organisation, group the figures into meaningful comparisons and use linking phrases only when their logical relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “private studios,” “college-based studios,” and the dance-style names, so the reader can identify the chart categories. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “popular studio are most famous place,” “performed a dances,” and “percentage … was very less.” Repetition of “percentage,” “students,” and “learned” also makes the report less precise. Aim for concise chart language such as “accounted for,” “attended classes at,” and “the least popular venue.” Check spelling and word forms as well: “in formation” should be “information,” and “youngest children” does not accurately describe the school-hall category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range is limited, and errors recur in basic sentence patterns, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “popular studio are” has a singular/plural mismatch, while “students can learned” combines incompatible verb forms. Phrases such as “the under 11 age” and “there 300 student learned” also show problems with sentence construction and articles. Use a reliable pattern for reporting figures: “Among under-11s, 600 students studied ballet.” Then vary it with accurate comparisons, for example, “By contrast, modern was most popular among 11–16-year-olds.” Proofread each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
