Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify both chart topics and report several relevant figures, including 48% for private studios and the age-group figures for ballet and modern dance. However, the response only partially summarises the data: it gives no clear overall overview of the main patterns, and some figures are inaccurate. For tap, the chart shows about 450 students under 11 and 420 aged 11–16, rather than “400+” and 400; modern is about 300 and 520, so “500+” is broadly accurate. The location section also does not state the 24% attending school halls, and the after-school sentence does not clearly report that figure. Include the key comparisons and check each number against the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: it first discusses locations, then moves to the dance styles, using markers such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore.” This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several links between ideas are unclear. For example, “The people who are attending it after school are doing it in school halls” does not clearly connect to the 24% figure, while the ballet sentence combines two age groups without making the comparison easy to follow. The repeated “The people who are…” structure also makes the report feel list-like. Group the information by chart and use direct comparisons to create a clearer progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to identify the main categories, including “private studio,” “community hall,” “ballet,” “tap,” and “modern dance.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations make the report less precise, such as “the ratio of under 11” and “the people who are under 11 are 400+.” “Ratio” is not the right term for comparing student numbers, and “people” is less suitable than “students” in this context. There is also a spelling error in “bel oe” (“bel oe” appears as “bel oe” in the opening). Aim for concise chart language such as “accounted for,” “approximately,” and “the figure for,” while checking spelling and natural phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences, but most structures are simple or joined in ways that are not fully controlled. Errors in agreement and sentence construction appear in “the location of dance classes are different” and “the amount of people who are under 11 are 600.” The opening “Very first” is also followed by a sentence fragment-like sequence, and punctuation is often missing after sentence boundaries, as in “other. The private studio.” Capitalisation is inconsistent in “If” and “Moreover.” These issues sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Practise accurate comparison patterns, for example, “There were about 600 under-11 students in ballet, compared with 300 aged 11–16,” and check agreement and punctuation.
