Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the chart topic and names several locations, and it makes one relevant observation: private studios account for the largest share. However, it does not summarise the charts adequately. It omits the location percentages, gives no comparisons between the two age groups or dance styles, and provides no meaningful overview; “overall,” is left unfinished. The statement about “the numerous student” is too vague to report the chart’s main feature accurately. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving too little space to select and explain the key information. To improve, complete the overview and report the main figures and contrasts shown in both charts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to introduce the visuals, followed by a short comment about private studios, so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the response has no developed progression: it does not move from an overview to organised details, and the final “overall,” is an incomplete transition rather than a conclusion. The list of locations is compressed into one sentence, with inconsistent spacing and punctuation making the items harder to follow. There are also no linking expressions to compare the charts or connect relevant figures. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and chart details, and group information logically—for example, compare locations first, then contrast dance preferences by age.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “pie chart,” “dance classes,” “community halls,” and “private studios,” which makes the topic recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “young generation,” “holds the numerous student,” and “dance practicing.” “College base studios” also does not accurately reproduce the chart label. These limitations make the description less clear and less suitable for formal data reporting. Aim for precise terms such as “young people,” “accounted for the largest proportion,” and “students attending classes,” and use the chart’s labels consistently. Check spelling as well, particularly “Australia.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response shows some control of basic sentence forms, including the opening clause “this pie chart illustrates…” and the simple statement about private studios. However, the grammatical range is very limited, and errors occur in the short text. For example, “The location are” has subject–verb disagreement, while “Private studio holds” has an incorrect singular form and agreement. The list sentence lacks consistent article and plural control, and “overall,” is not completed as a grammatical sentence. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent. Practise accurate simple sentences before adding comparisons, then use structures such as “While X accounts for…, Y is more popular among…” to show a wider range while maintaining control.
