Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify two relevant overall features: private studios account for the largest share of locations, and the older age group has the strongest participation in modern dance. You also report several location percentages accurately, including 48%, 24%, 18% and 10%. However, the description of the dance-type chart is incomplete and sometimes inaccurate: the under-11 ballet figure is about 600, not 620, and the response does not clearly compare all three styles across both age groups. The claim that modern dance has “no interest” conflicts with the substantial figures shown, while “constant increase” is unsupported because the charts show comparisons, not change over time. A clearer overview and accurate comparisons of ballet, tap and modern would make the report more fully address the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and separate paragraphs for the location and age-group charts. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is divided. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow, particularly in the final paragraph, where the figures and comparisons are not presented in a clear order. Linking phrases such as “As well as,” “Further,” and “In additionally” are either awkward or do not show the relationship between ideas accurately. Some references, including “this 300 to 520,” are unclear. Organise the age-group data by dance style, compare the two groups for each style, and use simple, accurate links such as “whereas” and “by contrast.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the charts, including “private studio,” “community halls,” “age group” and “number of students.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand. For example, “choreography lecture,” “garden,” “attentive” and “bullet constant increase” do not accurately describe the chart information. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “grapsh,” “cahnge” and “dnace.” These issues sometimes strain the reader’s understanding, rather than simply making the report less natural. Use the chart’s own terms consistently, and check spelling and collocations; for example, describe “the number of students attending each dance style” rather than a “constant increase.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some longer sentence forms, but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and errors are frequent enough to make several statements hard to interpret. For instance, “the type of dance classes adult age eleven to sixteen” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “the age of adults 11 to 16 constant same it has been smaller change” does not form a complete, clear comparison. Articles, agreement and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “the private studio is the most popular location” when referring to studios generally, and the run-on after “24%.” Build accurate simple sentences first, then add comparisons using structures such as “Under-11s preferred ballet, whereas the older group favoured modern dance.”
