Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover both charts and give a clear overview of the main patterns: private studios are the leading location, college-based studios the least used, and the most popular dance style differs by age group. Most figures are accurately reported, including the location percentages and the approximate student numbers. One detail in the overview is not supported by the chart: ballet is not the most popular style among under-11s; it is the largest category for that group, but the chart’s overall comparison is by age group, and your wording could be more precise. The body paragraphs provide relevant comparisons, especially for tap and modern dance. To strengthen the report further, make the overview’s comparisons exact and ensure each claim clearly reflects the chart data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear four-part structure: introduction, overview, location details, and age-group comparisons. This gives the reader a logical route through the two charts, and transitions such as “Overall,” “According to the pie chart,” and “Moving on” help signal the sections. The comparisons within the final paragraph are also easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly “Compared with,” which does not form a complete comparison, and “School halls the second number” leaves the relationship unclear. The overview also moves between chart features without a particularly smooth connection. Use more natural comparison structures and link each sentence explicitly to the relevant category or age group to make cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough task-related vocabulary to describe locations, proportions, and participation, including “private studios,” “participants,” “approximately,” and “popular.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “apperent,” “conpared,” “aroubd,” “dace,” and “dace” appear in place of intended words, while “the second number of individuals” is an unnatural way to describe the second-largest share. “Had the largest number of people” is also imprecise because the chart reports percentages, not headcounts. Aim for accurate collocations such as “accounted for the largest share” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for ranking and comparison would make the report clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the contrast in “whereas modern dance was most popular…” and the comparison “while the younger group had approximately 300 students.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors occur in basic sentence patterns and agreement. For example, “The bar and pie charts illustrates” should use a plural verb, and “the private studio were” has a mismatch between singular and plural. “School halls the second number of individuals” is missing a verb, while “Compared with” is left as an incomplete sentence opening. The introduction also uses an awkward construction after “information about.” Practise complete comparison sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. Greater accuracy in these patterns would make your range more effective.
