Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two chart topics and give an overview of the leading location and some age-related differences. However, several comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: ballet is highest for under-11s, but for 11–16-year-olds modern is highest, not ballet; the figures for modern are about 300 under 11 and 520 aged 11–16, rather than 500 for the older group. You also call college-based studios the least common without giving their 10% share, and the overview does not clearly compare the dance types across both age groups. The response is 139 words, below the required 150, so there is limited space to report the main features fully. Include accurate figures and a clearer overview of the key contrasts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an opening, an overview and further details, and the reader can generally identify which chart is being discussed. However, progression is not consistently clear: the paragraph beginning “Furthermore” moves between the age groups and dance styles without a clear comparison, and the location information is left until the final paragraph. Linking words such as “Moreover” and “In” do not always show the relationship between ideas accurately, while “In, location” is an awkward transition. Organise the body by chart or by comparison, and use links such as “By contrast” to make differences between age groups explicit. This would give the response a clearer overall progression and reduce the impression of loosely connected statements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “private studios”, “school halls”, “ballet” and “age groups”, so the main subject is understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Private studies” appears to be a mistaken form of “private studios”, and “the least percentage show” is not a natural way to describe the smallest share. Phrases such as “more number of students” and “number of kids” are also imprecise for an academic report. Aim for concise chart language such as “accounted for”, “the largest proportion” and “student numbers”. More accurate and varied phrasing would make the comparisons clearer and more formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with limited use of more varied sentence structures. Errors occur in basic agreement and sentence formation: “The given pie chart and table shows” should use a plural verb, while “ballet have more number” has an agreement problem and an incomplete comparative construction. The sentence “In, location of dance classes 48% are covered…” is also missing a clear grammatical opening, and articles and plural forms are inconsistent in phrases such as “least common are College-based studio”. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the general topic, but they make several comparisons less clear. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build comparisons using complete structures, for example, “Ballet attracted more under-11 students than modern dance did.”
