Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You report the four location percentages and include figures for both age groups, so the response contains relevant information from both charts. However, there is no clear overview of the main patterns: for example, private studios are the most common venue, while college-based studios are least common, and the preferred dance styles differ by age. Some figures are also inaccurate: under-11 modern is about 300, not 520, and the 11–16 modern figure is about 520, not 530. The response is 136 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 23 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Add a concise overview and check the chart values before reporting them.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a basic sequence, listing the four locations and then moving to the age-group figures. Words such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “At fourth” signal this order, so the reader can identify the information being discussed. However, the repeated “it demonstrates” pattern makes the progression mechanical, and the response is presented as one block rather than being divided into clear paragraphs. The final two sentences also list figures without explaining the comparison between age groups. Group the location data together, then discuss dance types in a separate paragraph, using linking language to highlight contrasts rather than simply enumerate details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “private studios,” “Community halls,” “ballet,” and “tap,” which helps identify the chart categories. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “total public of Australia,” “attending … functions,” and “joining classes.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “demostrates,” “Autralia,” “elloborate,” and “oters,” which reduce clarity and control. Aim for precise chart language, such as “the proportion of students taking classes at…” and “the number of students studying…”. Avoid describing the figures as the Australian public, since the charts concern young people in one town.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use a simple reporting pattern, and the reader can generally recognise the intended figures. However, grammatical control is inconsistent: “the chart below show” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the under 11 years joining classes” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase. The opening after the copied prompt begins with a lowercase “the,” and several clauses omit articles or use incomplete constructions, as in “At Third, it demonstrates that 24% of total public…” The response also relies on repeated sentence structures rather than showing a range of accurate forms. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “Students under 11 attend 600 ballet classes,” and check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
