Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover both charts and give a clear overview, identifying private studios as the leading venue and comparing the leading dance styles by age group. Most figures are accurately reported: the venue percentages are correct, as are the ballet and modern figures. However, the overview says modern is most popular among “adults aged 11–16”; this group is young people, not adults. The claim that tap is “the less common dance type among both age group” is also inaccurate: tap is not the least popular for either group, since modern has fewer under-11 students and ballet has fewer 11–16 students. These misread comparisons and the limited synthesis of the age-group patterns keep the report from being more fully developed. Compare the highest and lowest figures for each age group explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by one paragraph on locations and one on dance types. This makes the two charts easy to distinguish, and linking phrases such as “In addition” and “Meanwhile” help guide the reader. To strengthen progression, make the comparisons within the bar-chart paragraph more systematic, rather than moving through styles with “On the other hand,” “Furthermore,” and “At last.” Some transitions are not quite logical, and the overview’s “On the other hand” does not express a genuine contrast. The final paragraph also ends without a concise comparison of the age groups. More precise referencing and less mechanical sequencing would make cohesion smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “representing,” “account for,” “venue,” and “age groups,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “most interesting” does not describe popularity in a chart, “least famous” is unsuitable for venues, and “the less common” is not the natural form here. Spelling errors such as “pecentage” and “Furthuremore” also reduce accuracy. Aim for neutral reporting language and check spelling carefully. For example, use “most popular” or “largest share” for rankings, and “least used” for the venue with the smallest proportion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including the overview contrast beginning “While modern is most popular…” and clauses introduced by “that” and “with.” However, some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation remain. For example, “private studios is” should be “private studios are,” and “in an Australia town” needs a different article and adjective form. The sentence beginning “While modern…” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence, while “the bar chart compares” is missing an article in the introduction. Spacing after commas is also inconsistent. These issues do not prevent understanding, but more reliable control of complete sentences and agreement is needed.
