Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios account for nearly half of classes, while college-based studios have the smallest share. You also compare age groups for ballet and tap, and correctly report the under-11 figures and the younger group’s modern figure. However, the overview is incomplete: it says teenagers prefer modern dance, but does not report that modern is highest for 11–16-year-olds (about 520), nor does the body give this key figure. The location details are also unclear because “community halls and school halls 24%” could wrongly suggest they share that percentage; school halls are 24% and community halls and other locations are 18%. Covering these features more precisely would make the summary more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two charts. This makes the information easy to follow, and phrases such as “Overall,” “From the pie chart,” and “Regarding the bar chart” signal the stages of the summary. The progression is generally logical, but some linking and referencing could be more precise. In “community halls and school halls 24%,” the relationship between the locations and the figure is unclear, and the following sentence repeats community halls rather than moving to another comparison. The final paragraph also ends without completing the comparison of modern dance across the age groups. More concise linking and a clearer sequence of comparisons would strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “categories,” “participating,” and “nearly half,” and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “in present time,” “a significant proportion is taking classes,” and “more fond of modern type of dance.” There are also spelling errors, including “balllet,” “studioes,” “proportiuon,” “Moder,” and “chgildren,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases such as “the proportion of students attending classes” and “teenagers favour modern dance.” Check spelling carefully and avoid adding words like “type” when they do not improve precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex contrast with “whereas” and a sentence beginning “Regarding the bar chart,” so the response is not limited to short simple statements. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “a significant proportion is taking classes,” the subject and verb construction is awkward; “a significant proportion of young people take classes” is clearer. The phrase “whereas minority” needs an article (“whereas a minority”), and “classes of college-based studioes is 10%” has an unclear grammatical relationship between the classes and the percentage. The final sentence, “Moder dances are 300 for young children,” also lacks a natural structure for reporting a figure. Use consistent present-tense reporting patterns and check articles, agreement, and sentence completeness.
