Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both charts and include the main location proportions, accurately identifying private studios as the largest share (48%) and college-based studios as the smallest (10%). You also report several age-group figures. However, the overview is not fully accurate: ballet is not more popular than tap overall, and modern is not more popular than tap overall; the chart shows different leading styles by age group. The description of tap also misstates the age groups: 450 students are under 11 and about 420 are aged 11–16, not the reverse. The overview should highlight that ballet leads among younger students, while modern leads among older students, with tap figures relatively similar. These inaccuracies and limited comparison leave some key features unclear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie chart and the age-group data. Sequencing within the final paragraph is easy to follow through “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly.” However, progression is somewhat mechanical, and the overview does not provide a reliable guide to the details that follow. Some links between ideas are awkward, such as “The pie chart illustrates the locations, there is…” and “Modern dance it has…,” where ideas are joined without clear sentence boundaries. The comparison between age groups is also not consistently signposted. Use clearer topic sentences and connect figures through direct contrasts, rather than relying mainly on ordinal transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “community halls,” “Ballet,” and “students,” so the reader can understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repetitive, including “great numbers,” “large number,” and repeated uses of “about.” “The ballet dance and modern is very popular than tap dance” is also an awkward way to describe comparative popularity. There are noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “taje,” and some unnatural collocations, including “types of dances and age group that take part in dance.” Aim for precise chart language such as “accounted for,” “the largest proportion,” and “the number of students enrolled in each style.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple structures, and the response attempts some longer constructions, but errors are frequent enough to make parts of the description difficult to read. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent: “The pie chart illustrate” and “Ballet dance have” should use singular agreement. There are also problems with sentence boundaries and clause structure, for example, “The pie chart illustrates the locations, there is a large number…” and “Modern dance it has…”. Articles and number forms are sometimes inaccurate, as in “the highest numbers of student.” The age comparison would be clearer with controlled comparative sentences, such as “There were 600 students under 11 in ballet, compared with 300 in the older group.” Practise accurate simple sentences before adding more complex structures.
