Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and identify several important patterns, including private studios as the most common location (48%), college-based studios as the least common (10%), and the contrast between younger students’ preference for ballet and older students’ preference for modern dance. However, some comparisons are incomplete or inaccurate. The 42% figure combines community halls and school halls, but the wording makes it sound as though students generally attend both; report the two shares separately (18% and 24%). You also describe teenagers as doing modern dance “in small count,” although this is their highest figure, at about 520, and the under-11 tap figure is not reported. The overview is present, but clearer, more accurate coverage of the main figures would strengthen it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, discussion of locations, discussion of dance types, and a concluding overview. This makes the information broadly easy to follow. However, progression within the dance-type paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and the final paragraph repeats the contrast already stated rather than adding a concise summary of the main features. Some linking is mechanical or imprecise, as in “Opposing trends are seen” and “Students of age 11-16 do mostly contrary of under 11 students.” Use clearer comparisons and references, such as “By contrast, the older group…” and organise the figures consistently by age group or dance style. This would make the relationships between the data easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the charts, including “locations,” “age groups,” “prefer,” and “comprising,” and you attempt some varied expressions such as “a large chunk.” However, several choices are informal, inaccurate, or awkward for an academic report: “a large chunk,” “decent amount,” “small count,” and “less prefered.” Spelling errors such as “Austrailia,” “childern,” and “prefered” also reduce accuracy. Some phrases obscure the intended comparison, particularly “do mostly contrary of under 11 students.” Aim for precise, neutral language and use standard forms such as “proportion,” “number,” and “preferred.” The range is sufficient to discuss the charts, but more accurate collocations and spelling would make the description clearer and more appropriate in tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “while” and “which,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation remain. For example, “The Charts here shows” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “which makes 42% person of students” is not grammatically well formed. The sentence beginning “Students of age 11-16 do mostly contrary…” also lacks a clear grammatical structure. Several sentences run together without spaces after full stops, such as “Austrailia.Overall” and “dance types.Students,” which affects readability. Check agreement and sentence boundaries, and use simpler, complete comparisons where complex structures are difficult to control.
