Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify both chart topics and report several relevant figures, including the location shares of 48%, 24%, 18% and 10%, as well as some age-group values. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: the charts show location percentages and dance-type numbers by age, not a single pie chart showing both. The comparison that under-11 students are highest overall is not supported across all dance types; older students lead in modern, while younger students lead in ballet. There is also a misreading of modern as “5200” rather than about 520, and the tap comparison is vague. Select the main contrasts accurately and summarise them clearly before giving supporting figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to chart details and a concluding statement, and it attempts to group location information separately from dance-type data. However, progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated and some sentences combine unrelated details. For example, “The pie chart show information location…” runs through several percentages before shifting abruptly to age-group figures. The conclusion repeats the claim about the highest ratio without clearly summarising the main comparisons. Use one paragraph for location and another for age-group patterns, with a clear overview near the beginning. Connect comparisons explicitly, rather than relying on repeated phrases such as “the percentage was” and “number of students.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on “information,” “ratio,” “number of students,” and “dance classes.” Some chart-related terms are used, such as “percentage,” “location,” and “age group,” so the topic is generally recognisable, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural. “Country of Australia” does not describe the chart’s setting, and “highest ratio” is less suitable than “largest share” for the location percentages. “In tab” appears to be an incorrect attempt to refer to tap, while “heighest” is misspelled. Build a more precise range for describing charts, including terms for proportions, totals, and comparisons, and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The pie chart show” should be “The pie chart shows,” while “Location of college based studio was lowest ratio” needs clearer article use and a more complete grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “Types of dance classes … number of students under 11” is difficult to parse because its subject and comparison are not clearly formed. There are also punctuation problems, including missing spaces after full stops and a run-on transition in “48%.Types.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then use controlled comparative structures such as “whereas” and “compared with.”
