Student answer (Band 6.0)
The charts illustrate the information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.
Overall, mentioning the location of the dance class, a major portion of classes are held in private studios. Community and school halls also covers a noticable percentage for the class and college based studios are also utilized. Different age group students take part in different types of dance.
The pie chart highlights the different locations of dance classes, private studios covers almost half of the full with 48% while school halls contains the part of almost a quarter with 24%. Community halls and other take approximately one fifth of the total with 18% and college based studios also contains a minimal number with 10% of total.
The bar chart demonstrates the number of students with different age groups learning different types of dance. Ballet learners are almost at 600 students with the age under 11 and half of that with 300 students with the age between 11-16. Tap dance learners are more than 400 with age under 11 and almost 400 with age between 11-16. On the other hand modern dance students are almost 300 in number with age under 11 and more than 500 with age between 11-16.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: private studios are the largest location category, while the age groups show different preferences across dance styles. Most figures are reported accurately, including the location percentages and the main ballet and modern comparisons. This meets the task well, with some features more fully described than others. The main factual weakness is the tap comparison: the chart shows about 450 under-11 students and 420 aged 11–16, not “almost 400” for the older group. You could also make the overview more precise by stating that ballet is most popular among under-11s, whereas modern leads among 11–16-year-olds. These sharper comparisons would make the summary more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie chart and bar chart. This makes the two sets of information easy to follow, and phrases such as “On the other hand” help signal a contrast. However, some linking and referencing are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Overall, mentioning the location…” is an awkward way to introduce the overview, and “Community and school halls also covers” makes the relationship between the categories difficult to follow. The bar-chart paragraph lists styles in sequence but could connect the comparisons more explicitly. Use clearer topic sentences and comparison links, such as “By contrast” or “while,” to strengthen progression without repeating the chart labels.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “private studios,” “percentage,” “age groups,” and “learners,” and the meaning is generally clear. There is some variety in how you describe the data, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision. For instance, “covers almost half of the full” is not a natural way to describe a share, and “contains the part of almost a quarter” is unclear. “Minimal number” is also unsuitable for a percentage, while “utilized” is more formal than necessary and does not add precision. Spelling errors such as “noticable” further affect control. Aim for concise chart language such as “accounts for,” “represents,” and “approximately,” and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex contrast in “On the other hand modern dance students…” and clauses comparing the age groups. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. In “Community and school halls also covers,” the plural subject requires “cover”; “private studios covers” has the same agreement problem. Several comparisons are awkwardly constructed, as in “with the age under 11” and “half of that with 300 students with the age between 11-16.” The opening overview sentence also has an unclear grammatical structure. Use “among students under 11” and “compared with 300 among those aged 11–16,” and check subject–verb agreement. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
