Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main location pattern and make relevant age-group comparisons, including the high share for private studios and the contrast between ballet and modern dance. However, some reporting is inaccurate: community halls and other locations account for 18%, not 8%, and the modern figure for 11–16-year-olds is about 520, rather than “almost 530” (a small approximation, but the claim that this is double 300 is also imprecise). The overview repeats the location finding and gives two dance-type trends, but does not summarise the full pattern clearly—for example, that tap numbers are similar across ages and that ballet falls with age. More accurate figures and a fuller overview would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable sequence: an introduction, location figures, age-group comparisons, and a concluding overview. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information, and phrases such as “In terms of” help signal a change of focus. The paragraphing and progression are not fully controlled, however: the overview appears at the end after the detailed comparisons, and it largely repeats earlier points rather than synthesising them. Some linking is awkward or mechanical, as in “while compared with” and “while the figure increased.” Improve cohesion by grouping the location chart separately from the dance-type chart and using direct comparisons, such as “By contrast, modern was more popular among older students.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main comparisons, including “largest proportion,” “most common,” “popular,” and “increased.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision. “Types of the dances” is less natural than “types of dance,” while “more famous” does not accurately describe participation and should be “more popular.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “attented,” “ballest,” and “pouplar,” and “classes” is sometimes used where the chart reports numbers of students. Aim for accurate chart language such as “accounted for,” “enrolled,” and “the figure stood at,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparative sentences, and the main meaning is generally recoverable. However, control is uneven, particularly when combining ideas: “Tap dance classes were almost equivalent …, ranged from 400 to 420” lacks a clear grammatical connection, and “Students under 11 seemed to to interested” has an incorrect verb construction. There are also errors in articles, prepositions, and punctuation, such as “among the students aged under 11” and the missing spaces after full stops and commas. The response relies heavily on basic sentence patterns, with complex comparisons often becoming faulty. Practise forming complete clauses with accurate verbs—for example, “Tap enrolments were similar, at about 450 and 420”—and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
