Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify both charts and report the four location percentages, with the figures matching the visual. You also include the main dance types and several age-group values. However, the overview is not a clear summary of the key patterns: it mainly says there are four locations, rather than highlighting that private studios are the most common venue and college-based studios the least common, or that preferences differ by age. There is also a significant reversal in the Modern figures: the chart shows about 520 students aged 11–16 and 300 under 11, but your wording assigns these the other way round. The response is 146 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 13 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Develop a concise overview and check comparisons against the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview attempt, and a paragraph reporting details. Phrases such as “To begin with” and “These two chart provide” help signal movement between the information. However, the progression is limited because the overview repeats that there are four locations without summarising the main trends, and the final sentence largely restates the introduction. The long detail paragraph combines venue percentages and all dance-type figures, making comparisons harder to follow. Group the location data separately from the age-group comparisons, and use clearer links such as “By contrast” when describing the different patterns in ballet, tap and modern. This would make the organisation more purposeful and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “Ballet,” “Tap” and “Modern,” so the reader can identify the categories being described. There is some variation in how you refer to the data, such as “number of students” and “types of dance classes.” However, several word choices and spelling errors reduce precision, including “studiod,” “stundent” and “respectivelly.” The phrase “students age under 11 to 11-16 year” is also unclear, and “very high” is a vague way to describe the largest share. Aim for accurate, concise chart language, such as “accounted for,” “the largest proportion,” and “students aged 11–16.” Proofreading spelling and using more precise comparisons would strengthen this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate the basic information using simple sentences and make some attempts to connect ideas, for example, “There are three types of dance classes…” and the longer sentence comparing ballet figures. However, errors occur frequently in sentence structure and agreement. “The illustrated chart provide” needs a plural subject or singular verb, while “The number of students in Ballet are 600” has a singular subject with a plural verb. Several clauses are incomplete or awkwardly joined, as in “the number of students in Tap 450 students…” and “students age are 11-16.” Articles, plurals and punctuation also need attention. Practise complete comparison structures, for example, “Among under-11s, 600 students attended ballet, compared with 300 in the older group.” This will make the figures easier to understand.
