Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and give a relevant overview, identifying private studios as the most common location and college-based studios as the least common. You also note the strong preference for ballet among children under 11. Most figures are reported accurately, including the location percentages and the ballet totals; the tap and modern figures are close to the chart. This gives the response a clear, relevant account of the main information. To make the overview more complete, compare the age groups across all three dance styles: for example, ballet is higher among under-11s, while tap is similar and modern is more popular among 11–16-year-olds. The current overview focuses mainly on location and ballet, leaving these broader contrasts less developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the location and dance-type data. This makes the two charts easy to distinguish. You also use linking expressions such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and “Meanwhile” to signal relationships. However, some transitions are mechanical or do not express a clear contrast, and the final paragraph reads as a sequence of separate figures rather than a connected comparison. For instance, group the age figures by dance style and directly compare the two age groups within each style. Clearer referencing and more purposeful links between sentences would make the progression smoother and reduce the repeated “Whereas” and “Meanwhile” pattern.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the chart content, including “percentage,” “age group,” “students,” and “types of dance classes.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “largest amount of people attend,” “lowest figure,” and “600 number of students join this group.” Repeated use of “students” and “dance” also makes the description less precise. Spelling errors, including “Bellet,” “populer,” “defferent,” and “verry,” are noticeable and weaken accuracy. Aim for concise chart language such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “the number of students taking ballet.” Check spelling carefully and vary reporting verbs while keeping them natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while” and “whereas,” and the main comparisons are generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and clause construction occur across the response. Examples include “private studio has largest amount,” “college-based studios has lowest percentages,” and the fragment-like construction “Meanwhile, college-based studios has 10%, it is lowest figure.” The opening phrase “the 4 various location” also shows problems with number and article use. Practise forming complete comparison sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, for example: “Private studios account for the largest share, at 48%, whereas college-based studios represent the smallest, at 10%.” More accurate control of these patterns would improve clarity.
